MUSIC

Radiohead - Burn The Witch

Soundtracking this miniature movie (an homage to the 1973 cult film "The Wicker Man," except perhaps for its ending) is the new Radiohead song "Burn the Witch." From the start, violins are bowed unconventionally to create an unsettling, bouncing texture, slowly building into an ominous climax. Radiohead continues their campaign of asking us to open our eyes—can't we see what's wrong in this world?

David Bowie Blackstar

Like a theater stage, scenes change from a jeweled skeleton in a spacesuit to a lot of cult-like dancing and human scarecrows as Bowie's voice trembles with emotion in this experimental pop-meets-prog-rock-meets-jazz-meets-the-future-meets-everything track.

David Bowie Starman

Bowie had (in his own words) "a repulsive need to be something more than human," which is all too accurate. With "Starman"—a late addition to 1972's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars—Bowie's alter-ego Ziggy Stardust spreads a message of hope for Earth. Apart from reassuring us it's all worthwhile, he urges listeners, "Let all the children boogie."

THINGS I HAVE LOVED

Clerkenwell Design Week

This event is now in its seventh year and this time the event has undergone a complete revamp, enabling exhibitors and visitors to rediscover a neighborhood that is brimming with innovative design. www.clerkenwelldesignweek.com

Ham Yard Hotel.

Something's in the air as soon as you arrive at London's Ham Yard Hotel. It's perhaps the immediate juxtaposition of calm after the walk through Piccadilly Circus, a block away. Situated in a private-like courtyard (where pedestrians can also take a shortcut), the hotel is surrounded by lovely independent boutiques, large oak trees, a gigantic bronze sculpture by English artist Tony Cragg, and rare for the vibrant Soho area: sunlit outdoor dining. www.grandluxuryhotels.com

Timothy Taylors Gallery

The show is a joint presentation by the gallery's contemporary art and master programs—and it represents a broad swath of international artists. From eleven mixed media works of Antoni Tàpies produced across twenty years to Gabriel de la Mora's 2016 piece "T-29 i / 29 d," composed of 29 pairs of discarded vintage stereo speaker cases, there's much to admire....and we did...for quite a while thank you. www.timothytaylorgallery.com

Maltby Street, Bermondsey

Lamb's Conduit Street, Bloomsbury

A partially pedestrianised street in bookish Bloomsbury, this is as civilised as shopping gets in the capital: it's not unusual for shop owners to dispense a free glass of wine to customers. First stop has to be Darkroom, Brix's favourite shop in the area.                       www.darkroomlondon.com

THINGS I HAVE LOVED

Kim Haller, Brooklyn

Practical and comfortable, much like her designs, Haller’s studio speaks volumes about the way she mixes her advanced technical knowledge with her personal experiences. After a successful debut, Haller decided to focus her energies on dreaming up a second fall collection rather than splitting the year into two...we wish her luck for 2016. www.kimhaller.com
