Kathy Kyle left a career in business consulting to become an artist, which is the sort of decision most people only discuss after a second glass of wine. Every design starts as an original painting in her studio in Dorking, is then printed onto silk and finished by hand, so the scarf round your neck began life on a sheet of paper.

The range runs from silk twillies, pocket squares and headbands to convertible sarongs and large silk scarves, alongside hand-pressed letterpress stationery and limited edition prints. She also takes commissions, turning someone's own story into a design, which makes for a rather more personal present than anything taken off a shelf.
