Wicker Stories
A doll's pram that will outlast the doll.
Wicker Stories is a family-run workshop in Podkarpacie, in the south-east corner of Poland, where basket weaving has been a serious occupation for a very long time. Several centuries of accumulated technique, now being applied to prams for dolls and baskets for toys. The weavers do not appear to consider this beneath them, which is rather to their credit.
What wicker is actually like to live with.
It creaks. It lightens in sunlight. No two pieces match, because willow does not grow to a specification. It also survives a decade of being hauled from room to room, which is more than can be said for most of what ends up in a playroom, and it tends to look better at the end of that decade than at the start.
