A bracelet stack is the least planned thing most people own. Nobody buys one; it accumulates, usually through birthdays and one or two things bought on a bad Tuesday, and the result says considerably more about somebody than a single expensive piece ever would.

A charm bracelet is the only jewellery that functions as a record. Each one arrives attached to an occasion, and the whole thing eventually reads as a rather good account of somebody's life, which is why they get handed on rather than sold.
