Paris Fashion Week just wrapped. While most chased runway shows, we spent the week in makers studios – discovering the designers, workshops, and creative spaces where incredible things comes to life.
The energy was inspiring. Makers experimenting with techniques, sourcing beautiful materials, pouring passion into every piece. Real creativity happening in real time. Lucky us!
Here's what stood out:
1. Stories win every time. Ask a maker about their sourcing and watch them light up talking about the family-run mill in Portugal or the natural dye technique they perfected. That excitement is contagious.
2. Fashion has always been about storytelling – the craft, the inspiration, the journey. When we lead with those stories instead of sustainability lectures, magic happens.
3. The best makers think long-term. We met designers we have worked with and known for many years, in their third, fifth, tenth season – refining their vision, deepening relationships with stockists, building loyal communities.
4. Overnight success is overrated. Steady growth, strong foundations, and sustained creativity? That's where the real opportunities are.
5. Conscious commerce can be effortless. People want to make good choices and have great experiences. Seamless checkout, beautiful curation – these aren't luxuries, they're essentials. The brands winning aren't choosing between values and convenience. They're delivering both.
6. Specificity creates connection. When makers share precise details – "deadstock silk from a 70-year-old Lyon mill" or "vegetable-tanned leather from a fourth-generation Tuscan tannery" – customers lean in. Those specific stories build trust and differentiation. Generic claims get scrolled past.
7. Limited production is the opportunity. Small batches mean uniqueness, quality, and intention. That scarcity creates genuine value – the opposite of mass-market sameness.
The right customers aren't looking for the cheapest option. They're looking for something special. Something meaningful. Something theirs.
After twelve years building Brix + Bailey and a week immersed in Paris, we're energized by what's possible when infrastructure supports creativity:
→ Makers building sustainable businesses over years
→ Compelling stories driving discovery
→ Conscious shopping that feels delightful
→ Communities forming around shared values
The future of fashion isn't about guilt or sacrifice.
It's about making conscious choices irresistible – through better stories, seamless experiences, and genuine connection.
That's the opportunity. And it's exciting.
