Canary Lava

Canary Lava is Līga Broliša, who started making jewellery from Canarian volcanic stone while living in the islands and has carried on doing it since. The material does most of the work: lava rock is matte, porous and properly black, and since no two beads come out of the ground alike, no two bracelets are identical either. She sets it against olivine from Lanzarote, red jasper, zebra stone, Baltic amber and shell, with stainless steel findings and, on some pieces, a magnetic clasp. The range is beaded and unisex by design, which is unusual enough in this category to be worth saying out loud. Lava stone is naturally porous, so it will hold a drop of scented oil for a day or two if that appeals to you, and behave like an ordinary bead if it does not.
