Bare Kind

Wear Kindness. Literally.

It started with straws

Lucy Jeffrey was working in banking in 2018 and decided a corporate career was not going to be her legacy. She began with reusable metal straws and recycled tote bags, then landed on socks, and on an idea simple enough to explain in one sentence: put an animal on the sock and give ten percent of the profits to a charity protecting that animal. She left the bank at the end of 2020 to do it properly.

Over thirty charities, one per design

The bumblebee socks fund the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. The turtle socks fund the Turtle Foundation. Every design is tied to a specific charity, more than thirty of them now, ten based in the UK. Their published tally includes hundreds of acres of rainforest protected, boxes of fish funded for penguins, giraffes adopted and turtles released. Foxes, penguins, elephants, orcas, puffins, bees. You name it, something is being done about it.

Certified, and unusually candid about it

Bare Kind has been a Certified B Corporation since October 2023. Socks are made in a third-generation family-run factory in Istanbul and in factories in India and China, in OEKO-TEX certified fibre, packed in FSC cardboard. They say plainly on their own site that where a factory is located tells you nothing about its standards, which is why they have all of them independently verified. That is a considerably more honest position than most brands take, and rather the reason to trust the rest of it.

Small steps, as they say

Fifty-odd designs now, engineered to the contours of the foot with a Y-stitch at the heel so they stay where they are put. Doing good from the ground up, which is a pun they made first and we are not going to improve on.

If you're making something rather good, we'd love to hear about it.

We're selective. In the nicest possible way.
