Bon Dog
Your Dog, In Watercolour.
Bon Dog is the work of Bon Allen, a self-taught painter who grew up without a television and has been making up for it with a brush ever since. She refuses to paint people, on the grounds that they are far too easily offended, and paints animals instead. Mostly dogs. Almost entirely dogs, if we are honest.
Sorted by breed, which is the only sensible system.
There are collections for the Beagle, the Bulldog, the Dachshund, the Golden Retriever, the Samoyed, the Shiba Inu, the Whippet and a good many more, each one painted with the specific indignity that breed brings to a household. The designs go onto homeware, stationery, prints and clothing, so it is possible to own a mug, a notebook and a jumper all featuring the same disapproving Bernese.
Painted first, printed second.
Every design starts as an original watercolour rather than a file, which is why the edges are soft and nothing looks as though it came out of a template. It is a small, specific pleasure, buying something with your own dog's breed on it, and there is no point pretending otherwise.
