Esin Akan trained at Central Saint Martins, studied in Italy, went through the London Business School, and spent years designing leather accessories at Burberry and Anya Hindmarch. Which is to say she knows precisely how a good bag is put together, and she noticed that nobody was making one for the woman who leaves the house at eight and does not get home until eleven having been to the office, the gym and dinner. So in 2012 she started doing it herself.
The signature trick is convertibility. The Midi Marylebone works as a clutch, crossbody, shoulder bag or belt bag depending on which strap you attach and how you feel about the evening. The Wimbledon goes further still, functioning as a laptop bag, a beach tote, a backpack, a shoulder bag and a crossbody. The shapes are minimal, the detailing is restrained, and the leather is Leather Working Group Gold certified, made up by family run factories in Europe. There is an olive leather line too, a plant-based material she developed from olives for anyone who would rather not have the animal version.
