Priya + Peanut
Named After A Dalmatian And An Unborn Daughter
Priya is the dog
Peanut was Grace, before she had a name. Anna and Rob launched the company in February 2020 and Grace arrived on the twentieth of March, which is either excellent planning or none whatsoever. There is now a second daughter, Emily, and a British Blue called Jasper. It is a full house.
It began with an article read at two in the morning
The sort of reading pregnant people do on a phone in the dark. This one was about newborns and high-contrast black and white images. Anna, an illustrator and former head of art, drew a set of cards to try on the baby who had not yet arrived. Grace was staring at them at two weeks old, which surprised everybody including her parents.
Drawn by somebody who can actually draw
Sensory flashcards, pram toys, stacking cubes, muslin blankets and prints, in bold black and white and in animal characters that appeal to the adult holding them as much as the small person looking. The cards took the Made for Mums Silver Award in 2021 for Best Baby Gift.
Tested on their own children first
And on those of friends and family, before anybody was asked to pay for one. It is a modest sort of quality control and considerably more convincing than a focus group.
