Rabbit + Friends

A small, squashy friend for the hour when everyone is meant to be asleep.

Rabbit & Friends is a Polish brand whose night lights were inspired by a mother's experience of bedtime which, as anyone who has done a few hundred of them will know, is less a single event than a long and delicate negotiation. Their answer is a family of soft silicone animals that glow. Give one a gentle pat and it lights up with a soft, warm glow or any of seven colours, and a timer can switch it off after two hours, by which point everyone involved is, with any luck, fast asleep.

The range is a small menagerie: bunnies, pandas, giraffes, seals and whales, big bears and little bears in sage, lavender, pink and blue, a paw, a lantern, a hanging light and sets of waterproof mini sea creatures. The bigger lamps come with a remote for changing the colour from the doorway, which parents will recognise as a significant tactical advantage, and there are animal torches for the essential business of reading under the covers. Made from BPA-free silicone with no sharp edges, and recharged by USB, they sit very happily in a nursery or on a bedside table, and make a rather lovely present for a new arrival.
