Rahu Care began in January 2021 with an Estonian hairdresser named Paula, more than a decade into her career, who had spent years watching salon bins fill with plastic bottles and clients struggle with their scalps. She had her own struggles too, with psoriasis and eczema, and could not find products that supported a sensitive scalp rather than aggravating it. So she decided to make them. Rahu means peace in Estonian, and the name is the brief: peace for the scalp, peace for the environment, and peace of mind about what is actually in the bottle. Or rather, the bar.

The founding principle is that a healthy scalp makes healthy hair, so Rahu treats the scalp the way skincare treats the face. The products are pH-balanced to protect the scalp's barrier, and the Signature shampoo is built on plant-derived prebiotic ferments, including tomato fruit ferment and radish root ferment, chosen to support the scalp's microflora. Each product went through a year of research and testing, developed with a chemist, before it was allowed anywhere near a shelf. Everything is vegan, cruelty-free and SLS-free.
