Slice Shades

For anyone who has ever looked up at the ceiling and thought it could try a little harder.

Slice Shades is the work of a designer who spent more than ten years in fashion, then set about renovating her own home and decided the lighting deserved every bit as much attention as everything else. So she started making her own. Each shade is wrapped by hand, loop by loop, onto an upcycled frame in her Liverpool studio, in bold stripes and structural shapes that treat a lampshade as the statement piece it was always meant to be.

There are scalloped shades and drum shades in striped colourways with names like aqua and rust, emerald and ecru, and blueberry and cocoa, each one bringing colour and texture to a living room, a bedroom or a hallway that has been quietly waiting for something to happen. They are slow-made in the truest sense, and they look it. There is something rather wonderful about a lampshade that is still worth looking at with the light switched off, and we have caught ourselves doing exactly that more often than we would like to admit.

For more for the room, have a browse of our cushions and wall art collections, or carry on to rugs for the floor beneath it all. There are more businesses like this one in our Women-Led, Upcycled and Small-Batch collections, and more from closer to home in our British Brands collection.
