Vintage Electrical

Lights built to outlast the building.

Steve Pattrick spent twenty years as a qualified electrician before founding Vintage Electrical in Norfolk in 2015, on the reasonable view that what the world was short of was properly wired lampshades. It began with original Coolicon and RLM enamel shades pulled out of warehouses and factories during refurbishments, inspected, restored and rewired. When the supply of originals ran out he started making them, and the Cawston and Filby ranges are now handspun from solid steel, copper and brass to designs first patented in the 1920s and 1930s. Find them in our lighting collection.

The switches click the way switches used to.

The range runs past pendants into solid brass wall lights, industrial bulkheads, bathroom fittings, and switches and sockets in brass and bakelite. That last part matters more than it sounds. A room can be beautifully lit and still feel wrong if the switch by the door is a bit of white plastic. More across home and decor and kitchen and dining.

Norfolk, then everywhere else.

The lights have gone from a Norfolk workshop into interiors projects across Europe, and onto the track at a Porsche destination in Oxfordshire. Not bad for a business that started by rescuing old factory shades from skips. Browse alongside our British brands and small batch edits, with further reading in the journal.

Have a browse through the rest of the lighting, or work room by room: living room, kitchen, bathroom and the utility room, which is where the bulkheads earn their keep.

The restored originals sit naturally with our resell, upcycled and vintage edit, and the rest of the workshop with our British brands. More of this sort of thing in the journal.
