Bedroom

The Room You Spend A Third Of Your Life In

And furnish last

Sitting rooms get the attention because sitting rooms get visitors. The bedroom is where people quietly economise, which is odd given the hours involved. This is the room where the difference between adequate and good is felt nightly rather than admired occasionally.

Bedding first, everything else after

Natural fibre bedding, blankets and throws in linen, cotton and wool, which breathe rather than trap heat and improve with washing rather than degrading. Cushions in weights that survive being sat against. There is a reason nobody regrets spending on bedding.

Light for eleven at night, not noon

Bedside lighting is a different job from overhead lighting and most rooms only have the second. Something low, warm and reachable from a lying position. Mirrors to make the room bigger than it is, and furniture for the pieces that have to hold clothes.

An argument for going to bed earlier

Add candles and home fragrance if the room needs persuading, and there is loungewear and sleepwear for the people in it. Have a browse through new arrivals or the wider Home + Decor collection.
