The Bit Of Life That Happens Before Everything Else.

Nobody thinks of this as a category.

Getting up, washing, putting something on, and then going out to do a thing that leaves you slightly out of breath. It is forty minutes of most days and it is where a good deal of the rest gets decided, which is a considerable amount of responsibility for a bar of soap.

Bath, body, and the shelf nobody else sees.

Soaps, oils, balms, shampoo bars and refillable dispensers from people who mostly formulate the things themselves. It is the one shelf in the house arranged entirely for an audience of one, which does rather raise the question of why most of us fill it with whatever was on offer. Bath, Body + Cosmetics and The Utility Room.

Sport, in the sense actually meant.

Not elite anything. Golf on a Sunday with a handicap nobody has verified, padel against somebody irritatingly better, workout kit that gets worn to the school run and possibly the shops, and swimwear for the fortnight it is genuinely called upon.

The mat question.

The Yoga Room holds mats, blocks, straps and bolsters. Be warned that mat thickness is a considerably more contentious subject than it has any business being, and everybody who practises regularly holds a firm and unsolicited view. Ask one, then ask another, then choose for yourself.

And outdoors.

Camping and hiking for the people who read a forecast, note that it is appalling, and go anyway.

One sensible note.

Nothing here treats anything. Bodies are personal and nobody selling a balm or a mat knows the first thing about yours. See a pharmacist or a GP about anything that needs treating rather than merely washing.

If you're making something rather good, we'd love to hear about it.

We're selective. In the nicest possible way.
