Everything a toddler is usually told not to touch, fixed safely to one board.

Busy Bunny Toys began, as the best ideas often do, at home in Latvia, with two small children and a family paying attention. Of all the toys in the house, the ones that held their interest longest were busy boards: a single panel of real things to open, turn, slide and click. So the family began making their own, and very sensibly never stopped.

Each board is cut from plywood and finished in water-based paint, with every latch, lock, zip, gear, bead and little door fixed on with screws and glue, because toddlers test things rather more thoroughly than any laboratory. They run from a portable 30 × 40 cm board for the sofa or the floor to an extra large 60 × 80 cm board with room for siblings and playdates, and most of the bigger ones are made to go on a playroom wall, which also stops them wandering off. They are best enjoyed with a grown-up close by, mainly to admire the concentration.
