Family Business
Independent Spirit. Passed Down With Purpose.
Somebody's name is on the door
Our Family Owned collection is for the brands keeping it personal. Multi-generational workshops, sibling-led studios, husband-and-wife operations, businesses where the person who answers the email is also the person who made the thing. No boardroom, no investor deck, no committee deciding what next season looks like. Just a small number of people who know exactly why every decision was made, because they were there when it was made.
Craft that gets handed on
Skills passed between generations tend to be the ones worth having: silversmithing, throwing, pattern cutting, the sort of thing that takes years and cannot be shortcut. Have a browse through time-honoured technique in Jewellery, hand-built utility across Home + Living, or the ceramicists working at the bench in Pottery Artists. There is womenswear here too, and artisan food producers running recipes that predate them.
Small on purpose
Family businesses tend to stay small by choice rather than circumstance, which is usually what makes them worth finding. It shows up in small batch production runs, in brands that would rather make fewer things properly, and in the willingness to answer awkward questions about where materials come from. Many of them also sit in our sustainable brands and ethical brands edits, which is not a coincidence.
