Nordhale

Made from the bits a felt factory was going to throw away.

Sinika Seepõld spent 2014 making things for children, then found industrial felt in 2016 and changed direction entirely, which is the sort of pivot that only looks obvious afterwards. Nordhale bags are cut from the excess a felt factory would otherwise discard, in monochrome, with almost nothing on them: no hardware announcing itself, no logo doing a lap of the front panel. The felt is soft to the touch but holds its shape, so the bags stand up rather than slump. All of it is made in Estonia. Backpacks, briefcases, totes, and something to put a laptop in.

The range is unisex and deliberately narrow: backpacks, briefcases, carrier bags, totes and laptop sleeves, all in the same material and mostly in the same very short list of colours. The felt is water repellent, which makes the weather a non-event, and light enough that you notice the contents rather than the bag. This is a very small operation, designed and led by one person and made up with handicraft specialists in Estonia, which is why the bags read as considered rather than manufactured.
