Most swimsuits are designed for standing about beside a pool looking faintly thoughtful. Macke's are designed for getting in it. The brand was started in Penryn, Cornwall, in 2025 by two people who spend a great deal of time in the water, one of whom happens to be a world champion, which rather settles any argument about who knows best what a swimsuit ought to do.

The answer, apparently, is to hold its shape, stay where it was put, and survive chlorine for considerably longer than a single summer. So the suits are cut close and simple in classic block colours, with nothing added for decoration, from a recycled performance fabric chosen because it keeps its fit long after lesser costumes have gone quietly baggy. They are made for training lengths, cold Cornish mornings and the North Sea, though they will cope perfectly well with a hotel pool if pressed.
