Games designed to live on the wall

The trouble with board games is that they spend most of the year in a cupboard, and the rest of it on a table where somebody's drink is about to go over.

Archtwain Design Studio make the other kind. Metal and wood boards that hang as objects and come down when somebody fancies a game. Minimal, Scandinavian in feel, and considerably better looking than the box in the cupboard.

The Range

Chess, backgammon, reversi, go, Chinese checkers and peg solitaire for the strategists. Darts, hookey ring toss, shuffleboard and a basketball board for everybody else. Sizes run from small enough for a hallway to large enough to need a proper wall.

How They Work

Most are designed to be played while still hanging, and to look like wall art the rest of the time. Which is the entire trick, and the reason they do not end up in the cupboard.

Worth Knowing

These are wall mounted and some are heavy, so fixings matter. Check the weight and the mounting guidance on the product page, and fix into something solid rather than optimistic.

Several come with small loose pieces, so keep those away from very young children.
