Casa Rolio was founded in 2023 out of a fascination with Mark Rothko, and in particular with his knack for making an entire room feel something using nothing but colour. The idea was to bring that feeling home, which, short of hanging a Rothko over the sofa, means a cushion, a set of placemats or a tissue box cover in colours bold enough to lift the mood of the place. It is a far more achievable plan, and we are wholeheartedly in favour of it.
The range covers the table, the bathroom and, slightly unexpectedly, your pocket. There are mix-and-match placemats and coasters, napkins and tufted cushions, bath mats and wash bags, and hot water bottles for the bedroom when the evenings draw in, plus phone cases in the same patterns for anyone who likes their phone to match the dining room. Every design comes with the colour turned up rather high, which in the depths of a British winter is very nearly a public service.
