Most jewellery takes itself extremely seriously, which is fine, and occasionally exhausting. Cuteryko has gone entirely the other way and makes hoops hung with miniature things: a packet of sweets, a cigarette, a stout glass with the head still on it, a snowflake, a candy swirl, a harp. The sardine tin necklace is the one that stops people mid-sentence, and quite right too.
They are small, precise and extremely well observed, which is what separates this sort of thing from novelty tat: the miniatures are convincing enough to make somebody lean in and then laugh. The hoops come in sets of three in several of the designs, so you can run a whole narrative up one ear if the mood takes you, and the seasonal pieces, baubles and snowflakes, arrive at the right time of year. Working out of Lisburn, which is not where you would expect to find a sardine tin pendant, and all the better for it.
