Jade Sammour grew up in a Cornish fishing family with the Atlantic on the doorstep, then became a Children's Heart Transplant Nurse Specialist at Great Ormond Street, which is about as demanding a job as exists. She taught herself jewellery making in the margins of it, as a way of doing something with her hands that was not somebody's life. What she eventually noticed was that the precision required in one world and the precision required in the other were rather closer than they looked.
The work is unmistakable once you have seen it: barnacle textures across the surface of a piece, wave-formed curves, and settings that hold a stone the way a rock pool holds water. The 1763 Collection revisits Victorian ocean-inspired design, the Goddess Collection draws on Greek myth, and the fine jewellery runs to Fairtrade solid gold and platinum. Everything is handmade in the London and Essex workshops from recycled precious metals and responsibly sourced stones. It has been worn by Kylie Minogue and Emeli Sandé, appeared in British Vogue, Tatler and Forbes, and took Online Retail Strategy of the Year at the 2024 UK Jewellery Awards.
