Two friends in Hebden Bridge started this in 2008, irritated by the amount of plastic involved in getting clean and by ingredient lists that read like a warning. Cold process soap making is the old way: mix the oils, pour, wait, cut, wrap, and let time do the work. It uses barely any energy, produces no by-product, and takes weeks rather than minutes, which is why almost nobody does it at scale. They have been doing it for going on twenty years.
The bars are built on olive, coconut, shea, cocoa and castor oils, scented with essential oils rather than fragrance compounds, and wrapped in recycled card with nothing plastic anywhere near them. The range runs from soap through shampoo and conditioner bars to shaving soaps, facial cleansers and household cleaning. They are registered with the Vegan Society, certified cruelty-free by Cruelty Free International, hold an Ethical Consumer Best rating, and are both an accredited Living Wage Employer and a Fair Tax Mark holder, which between them is a rather more convincing set of credentials than any adjective.
