The average person gets through a toothbrush every three months or so, which over a lifetime amounts to a quietly alarming pile of plastic somewhere. LiveCoco is a small London family business that set out to make that pile smaller, starting with the part of the bathroom most of us never think about twice.

Heads that fit the handle you already own.

Their best-known product is a replacement head for electric toothbrushes, made to fit the Oral-B handles already sitting in half the bathrooms in Britain, so there is no new gadget to buy. There are bamboo toothbrushes too, including one with over ten thousand ultra-fine bristles, which sounds excessive until you have tried it.

And they take them back.

Used heads and brushes can be posted back to them for recycling in bulk, which solves the problem that most toothbrush packaging politely ignores. The name, incidentally, once referred to coconuts. These days it stands for "conscious consumer", which tells you most of what you need to know about the direction of travel.
