Samantha Johnson spent over a decade in ecommerce homeware watching everything get sourced from the far east, and decided to do the opposite: design it here, print it here, make it here, in the old cotton mill towns of northern England. She and her husband Oliver named it after Avalon, the island where Excalibur was forged, which is exactly the right amount of ambition for a business that also sells a napkin reading The Food Is Better Than The Company.

The range is table linen mostly, in 100% natural fabrics: tablecloths, runners, napkins, tea towels, oven gloves and cushions, finished in Cheshire by a family run business. The prints run from botanicals and ticking stripes to summer lemons, and the embroidered slogan napkins are the ones that go viral and then sell out. There are plates too, thrown in Stoke-on-Trent with a classic green stripe border, because if you are going to insist on British manufacture you may as well do it in the place that invented the industry.
