Wool, Felted Until It Behaves.

HERTTA is the work of the Estonian textile artist whose name it carries, and the material is the whole argument: felted wool, archaic in the proper sense, warm in a way that synthetic outerwear never quite manages. The pieces are cut with two-colour cross-sections, so the construction shows at the edges rather than being hidden away.

Coats down to mittens, all designed to go together.

Each new design is made to work with the last, so the sets genuinely match rather than approximately match, and the range covers the whole cold-weather problem from outer layer to hands. Some pieces are series production and some are tailored to order.

The offcuts become something else.

Smaller one-off accessories are made from the fabric trimmings left over from the coats, which is less a sustainability policy than the habit of anyone who has ever paid for good cloth by the metre and refused to bin the ends.
