Lentsius

A Daughter, Her Father, And A Pile Of Offcuts.

Lentsius is Kairi Lentsius, a fashion designer and lecturer, and her father Mart, a craftsman, making jewellery together in a workshop in Tartu. It is an arrangement that presumably produces a certain amount of discussion about who is in charge, and a great deal of very clean, very precise jewellery, for men and women alike.

Made from what the factory threw out.

The pieces are cut from the leftovers of the metal and wood industries: marine-grade stainless steel, aluminium, and thin sheets of pine veneer that end up as bangles and, rather wonderfully, as wooden cufflinks. Almost every piece is made from a single material, which means fewer steps, less waste, and a sort of severe good looks that comes from having nothing unnecessary about it.

There are rings that split into two bands, earrings in half-matte and polished steel that catch the light differently from each side, and a bracelet tied in a knot. The whole collection works on the principle that less is more, which is a phrase everybody uses and almost nobody actually practises.
