The Drinks Bakery

For people who think a good drink deserves better than whatever was left in the cupboard.

The Drinks Bakery is an Edinburgh business founded by a man who shares his name with a rather well-known tennis player, and who has presumably heard every possible joke about it. He grew up in a family where an aperitif always came with a little something to match, has been baking since he was ten and trained in wine at nineteen, and the Drinks Biscuit is what happens when those three things finally meet. The biscuits are hand baked in the Scottish Highlands, with proper cheese at the heart of every recipe.

There are four flavours, each matched to a drink. Parmesan, toasted pine nut and basil goes with sparkling wine or a whisky highball; mature cheddar, chilli and almond with red wine, cider and fruity beers; Lancashire cheese and spring onion with an IPA or a crisp white; and Pecorino, rosemary and Scottish seaweed with a gin and tonic or a Martini. They are the obvious thing to bring to a dinner party, a very good present for the person who already owns every glass going, and we would recommend trying all four pairings in a single evening, purely in the interests of research.
