Tairi Roosve

One Designer, One Studio In Tallinn.

Most handbags arrive having passed through a great many hands, none of whom have met. These arrive having passed through exactly one pair, in a studio in Tallinn, where Tairi cuts, stitches and finishes everything herself. It gives the work a quality that is difficult to manufacture at scale: a classical shape with something faintly mischievous going on, usually in the colour, occasionally in the hardware, always in a way that makes the bag rather more fun than its silhouette suggests.

Deadstock Leather, Put Back To Work.

Alongside high quality chrome tanned hides, the studio works with deadstock leather: the surplus that larger producers have already ordered, already paid for and no longer need. It is beautiful material with nowhere to go, and using it means each run is limited to whatever happened to be available, so designs turn up once and then quietly retire. That pleasing scarcity is built into the way she works, and it puts the brand squarely among our upcycled finds and our small batch artisans.

Tartu, Then London, Then Home.

Tairi trained as a leather designer at the Pallas art college in Tartu, specialising in bags and accessories, then spent nine years in London working her way up through fashion retail as a visual merchandising project planner for one of the city's best known designers. Nine years of arranging other people's beautiful things is an excellent education in what actually makes an object desirable, and she brought all of it back to Estonia with her. The same eye runs through our other Baltic brands and women led brands.

Totes, Clutches, And A Brass Fastened Bracelet.

The range is deliberately compact: a roomy tote that occasionally conceals a removable clutch inside it, soft clutch bags in colours you would not expect and then immediately want, and leather bracelets with brass fastenings for anyone who likes a wrist to have an opinion. Have a browse through the tote bags, the clutches and purses, and the bracelets.

For more in the same spirit, look through the women's accessories, the gifts for her, the newest arrivals, or the full list of independent brands.
