Playmats You Will Not Want to Hide Behind the Sofa. Which Is Frankly a First.

Olya Kids is a Polish family brand, started by two parents preparing for the arrival of their second daughter. They went looking for a playmat that was safe for a baby and did not turn the living room into something resembling a soft play centre, and found the choice rather wanting. So they made their own, on the reasonable basis that children and good taste need not be mutually exclusive.

The foam puzzle playmats are made from non-toxic EVA foam, free from BPA, lead and phthalates, and are tested to the EN71 toy safety standard. A set of six pieces covers 120 by 180cm, and more sets clip on as the baby, and their ambitions, get bigger. The patterns are the sort you might choose for a rug, which is rather the point.

Then there are the splash mats, in vegan leather, for going under the high chair. They are waterproof, wipe clean in seconds, and have an anti-slip back so they stay put when a spoon is launched with intent. They roll or fold away afterwards, and double as a table cover for painting, or a picnic blanket for braver families.
