After fourteen years working with independent brands and boutiques, the London and New York marketplace is widening what counts as independent.
LONDON / NEW YORK. Brix + Bailey, the curated marketplace for independent brands across fashion, home, art and lifestyle, is opening applications to a broader set of independent businesses: authors, people running courses and workshops, and dealers in antiques and collectables.
The marketplace was founded in 2012 by two siblings, one in London and one in New York, as an independent handbag and watch brand with distribution to more than 350 stockists worldwide. It relaunched as a multi-brand marketplace in 2023 and now carries hundreds of hand-picked independent brands across six continents.
Why widen it
"We thought we knew exactly who belonged here. Independent brands, boutiques with real character, people who make or sell things properly and do not need to shout about it. Then we kept meeting people who did not fit that and obviously belonged anyway."
The woman running weekend workshops from her studio. The person who has finally written the book they always meant to write. The dealer with an eye for the genuinely unusual. Different trades, the same instinct: doing one thing properly, and doing it because they care.
Bricks and mortar
Alongside the widening, Brix + Bailey is expanding its partnerships with physical boutiques, on the argument that curation built over years by a shop owner with their own money at risk is a genuine skill that is almost invisible online.
