Resell, Upcycled + Vintage
Things That Have Already Been Made Once.
The greenest object in any room is generally the one that was already there, which is an awkward fact for an industry built on selling new things. Everything in this collection has had a previous life, or is built from something that did, and three rather different ideas end up sharing the one heading.
Upcycled means new pieces built from material that already existed: offcuts, deadstock fabric, salvaged wood, industrial fittings given a second job and generally a better one. Vintage means old things sold as they are, with the character that cannot be manufactured and the marks that come from having survived a few decades, and each product page says what condition to expect. Resell means pieces from independent brands finding a second owner instead of a bin, which is the least complicated environmental argument available and the one nobody ever bothers to make.
Worth knowing before you get attached.
Most of this is one of one. When it goes it does not come back, and there is no restocking something that was salvaged from a skip in the first place. It is a maddening way to shop and the only way to own something nobody else has.
If you would rather have brands doing this from the outset than after the fact, have a browse through sustainable brands, ethical brands and small batch, all gathered under shop by purpose. Everyone is listed in the brand directory, and the difference between the three words is explained at greater length in the journal.
