Home Is Where The Heart Is

The whole department, then

Furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles, wall art, and the small unnecessary objects that stop a room reading like a showroom. Everything from independently owned brands, a good many of them small enough that whoever designed the piece also made it, packed it, and would probably answer the email. Have a browse through new arrivals, or start with furniture and work outwards.

Where to start, depending on the room

For texture, cushions, bedding, blankets and throws and rugs. For light, lighting and mirrors and clocks. For walls, wall art and wallpaper and murals. For the surfaces in between, pottery and glass artists, candles and home fragrance and decorative accessories. Then kitchen and dining, which everyone underestimates and then eats in twice a day.

By purpose, and by place

Sort by purpose if you would like the brands' values to line up with yours, or by location if you would rather follow a craft tradition than a colour palette. Baltic and British are both reasonable places to begin. Where a brand holds a certification we name it on its own page, since a named certificate can be checked and the word sustainable on its own cannot.

And then one unnecessary thing

Layer everything properly, and then allow yourself something with no justification whatsoever. It will be the thing guests ask about. There is more of that sort of item in Gifts, everyone we stock is in the brand directory, and the stories are in the editorial.

If you're making something rather good, we'd love to hear about it.

We're selective. In the nicest possible way.
