Ten Years On From A First Pair Of Pliers.
In 2014 Paige picked up a pair of pliers with no training, no business plan and, by her own cheerful account, no real idea what she was doing. The first pieces went on Etsy and she describes them as questionable, which is a great deal more honest than most origin stories manage. A decade later Mysticum Luna is a team in Sheffield with a properly devoted following, and the questionable phase is remembered rather fondly.
The work draws on gothic imagery and memento mori: ravens and bird skulls, beetles, bat wings, spider webs and black gems, all designed in house. It is made in stainless steel rather than plated base metal, which is the deeply practical decision sitting underneath the aesthetic and the thing customers keep writing in about. People report wearing the same ring daily for five years through gardening, swimming and the occasional sunny fortnight with no tarnishing whatsoever, which is not a sentence you can write about much jewellery at this price.
