Mostly An Argument For Owning Less

The room that gives up first

Everywhere else in the house gets considered, and then there is a room containing eleven half-used bottles in aggressive colours, none of which anybody chose. It is also the room you stand in first thing every morning, which seems like a reason to do better.

Refill rather than replace

Glass and stainless dispensers that mount to a wall and stay there. Storage jars. Shampoo and conditioner bars instead of bottles. Replacement pumps sold separately, which is the small detail that decides whether a thing lasts five years or one. Look through Bath, Body + Cosmetics for what goes in the dispensers.

Wood, bristle and cotton

Brushes made of wood and natural bristle, loofahs that grew as gourds before they got to you, sea sponges, and organic cotton robes, slippers and towelling in unbleached natural. Things that will compost eventually, which is more than the plastic version manages.
