Family-scl is a family business in Latvia making Montessori furniture, which is to say furniture built around the radical proposition that a child should be able to reach things. It started in 2017 as a personal project and has been handmade ever since, on a scale where the people designing it are the same people making it.

Independence, which is the whole point.

Montessori design gives a child the means to do things without being lifted, fetched for or waited on, which is better for them and a considerable relief for everybody else. The pieces are made to be used daily by someone still learning where their own feet are, so the priorities are stability, sensible edges and a size that actually fits.
