Hand-painted in Portugal, a wreath of pink and blue blooms winds around the rim — each flower placed by hand, no two quite meeting in the same way.
The villages above Caldas da Rainha have been painting this garland for longer than anyone can remember — field flowers, observed rather than invented, running rim to rim the way they run along a garden wall in June.
JJ keeps this set of 4 dinner plates among plain white and dark stoneware. The open centre holds whatever lands on it. The garland does the rest.
