Green Cheeks began in a spare room in 2020, when its founder, then the mother of a two-year-old, went looking for cloth nappies that were bright, fun and actually worked, and discovered that if she wanted them she would have to make them herself. So she did. The range has been growing up alongside her son ever since: swimming lessons brought wet bags, starting school brought water bottles and backpacks, and days out brought changing bags roomy enough for the full expedition. Every product exists because the family needed it first, which is about the most reliable form of testing we have ever come across.

It is still, delightfully, a one-mum band from Nottingham, covering design, packing, photography and customer service, with no warehouse, no forklift and nothing mass-produced. Pieces are made to order or in small batches, so the changing bags in water-resistant nylon, the reusable cloth nappies with hemp inserts and bamboo wipes for the changing table, and the water bottles printed especially for one small owner all arrive feeling rather personal. There are school bags and backpacks, maternity and hospital bags for the bump-to-baby months, buggy clips, and a few lovely things for the nursery too.
