There is a particular kind of person who has killed a cactus. Not neglected it, not let it wilt a bit, but killed it outright, which requires a genuine commitment to failure. Leaf Design is for that person. Olive trees, Swiss cheese plants, ferns and topiaries, realistic enough that visitors reach out to touch them and then look faintly betrayed, and entirely indifferent to whether you remember them on holiday.

The company belongs to the people who work there, through an Employee Ownership Trust, on much the same principle as John Lewis. Larger businesses came along more than once wanting to buy it, and the founders politely declined and gave it to the team instead, which is either admirably principled or the most elaborate way anyone has ever avoided a meeting with private equity. Either way, the person packing your olive tree owns a bit of the company, and it tends to show.
