Hello Possums

New Zealand knitwear with a particular talent for the British winter.

Hello Possums was started by a New Zealander who moved to the UK and found the winters here, to put it politely, bracing. Rather than simply complain about the weather, which the rest of us have been doing quite happily for centuries, she set about introducing Britain to the knitwear she grew up with: possum down blended with New Zealand merino and a little mulberry silk. Each possum fibre is hollow, so it traps warm air close to the skin, which means the knitwear stays remarkably warm without ever feeling bulky. It is soft, breathable and resists pilling, which is more than can be said for most of the jumpers in our wardrobes.

The range covers gloves and wristwarmers, beanies, neckwarmers and scarves, cosy socks, jumpers and a travel wrap, with pieces for women and for men alike. It is all knitted in New Zealand by a mill that specialises in locally sourced fibres, and it makes a rather wonderful present for anyone who feels the cold, which, in this country, is more or less everyone.
