Our Pottery & Glass Artists collection brings together independent makers working in clay and glass, two of the oldest crafts there are and two that still refuse to be automated properly. Hand-thrown bowls, considered stoneware, sculptural centrepieces and everyday vessels with rather more character than the shop-bought equivalent. Slight asymmetries, glaze that pooled where it wanted to, no two pieces quite matching. That is the point rather than the flaw.
Glass, blown and worked by hand
Alongside the ceramicists are makers working with mouth-blown and hand-worked glass: vases, drinking glasses, lighting and decorative pieces where the material's behaviour under heat is half the design. Nobody makes glass quickly. It is one of the few crafts where the timescale of the making is visible in the finished object.
Small batches, so nothing lasts forever
Most of our potters and glassmakers work in small runs, which means availability moves. If something has gone, it is worth checking back rather than assuming. Many of them also sit in Small Batch and Sustainable Brands, and a good number are working in the UK, which you can see in British Brands.
