Lava Flow

Named After Volcanoes, Made By Hand.

Lava Flow is a small Lithuanian studio making leather bags and wallets by hand, and naming them after volcanoes and crater lakes. The Meru crossbody takes its name from a volcano in Tanzania, the Toba wallet from a supervolcano in Sumatra whose last eruption very nearly finished off the human race. It is an unusually dramatic naming scheme for a range whose whole personality is calm, clean and quietly useful.

Vegetable-tanned, which is the slow way.

The leather is Italian and vegetable-tanned, a process that takes weeks rather than hours and produces a hide that darkens and softens with use instead of wearing out. A new bag looks crisp. A five-year-old one looks like yours, which is the entire argument for buying leather at all.
