Sukun

Pronounced Su-koon. It Means Calm.

Fatima Khan has lived between Pakistan, New York and London, and founded Sukun in 2023 around a single straightforward observation: the best sleep most people get is in a boutique hotel, and there is no good reason for that. The sheets are softer, the pillowcases have been thought about, and the whole bed looks like somewhere you would choose to be rather than somewhere you end up. None of that is expensive to replicate at home. It simply requires somebody to bother.

Everything is 400 thread count cotton sateen with that faint silky sheen, woven in a family-owned mill from surplus factory fabric, and certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. The collections have a sense of place: Amalfi for minimalist Italian lines, Provence with its frilled trim edged in olive green thread, New Yorker in a crisp black double stripe with an Oxford border, and Royal London drawing on the interiors of Liberty. Hand-illustrated cherub pillowcases turn up alongside them, and there is bedding and pyjamas for children in the same cloth. Each set arrives wrapped in a reusable cotton case rather than plastic, and pillowcases can be monogrammed. Anthropologie and Moda Operandi have both taken it, which for a brand barely three years old is rather something.
