Zoë de Pass

Sunglasses Are A Sign Of Good Times Ahead.

The premise here is a cheerful one and, on inspection, entirely true: nobody packs sunglasses to go to the dentist. If the shades are in the bag then something enjoyable is about to happen, and Zoë de Pass has built a whole eyewear brand on that single observation. She spent fifteen years in design, branding and product before this, built a considerable following along the way, and now makes sunglasses from Brighton for women who have spent quite long enough in black and tortoiseshell.

The frames are handmade from premium acetate, which is the material that gives a frame proper weight and depth of colour rather than the flat look of moulded plastic, and the lenses are chosen to be worth looking through as well as looking at. Shapes are generous and the colours are the point: greens, ambers, pinks and combinations that would be described as brave by anyone still wearing black. They are the sort of thing bought for a festival, a beach or a long walk in January when the light is low and the sky is showing off.
