BellaMoon

Designed by a woman feeding every two hours, which does concentrate the mind.

It started with a baby called Bella.

Irene Breen's daughter Bella was born in Belfast and fed on demand, every two hours, with no apparent interest in the literature on being reasonable about it. Irene went looking for a way to survive the night shift and found the lateral feeding position: lying on your side, baby alongside, extracting something adjacent to rest from the process. What she could not find was a pillow designed for it. So she made one, which is how most genuinely useful objects turn up.

Two years, and an infant sleep lab.

Two years of design, development and testing followed, including independent testing by an infant sleep lab at a UK university, with the findings fed back into both the product and the instructions. BellaMoon calls it the world's first modular pregnancy and lateral breastfeeding pillow. We will let them make that claim rather than make it on their behalf, but two years and a sleep lab is a considerably longer runway than most nursery products are given.

One pillow, several jobs.

The 3-in-1 Pregnancy and Nursing Pillow goes from full-body pregnancy support to nursing pillow to sitting support, which is three pillows' worth of cupboard reclaimed. The lie-down feeding pillow has an Anti-Roll Fin and an Anti-Roll Barrier for positioning, and suits babies up to around eighteen months. Covers are organic cotton, removable and machine washable, in prints designed to be left out rather than pushed behind a chair when somebody comes round.

How it is meant to be used.

It is designed for supervised feeding. Once baby has latched off, baby goes onto their own separate sleep surface to sleep. BellaMoon is explicit about this, and so are we.
