Creative Women says the number is 1,400 women, across 14 countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America. Most brands that talk about artisans cannot tell you that, which is usually because nobody counted. The output is hand-woven home textiles in natural fibres, dyed with plant-based and AZO-free dyes, using locally sourced materials.

Hand-weaving produces a cloth with a slightly different weight and drape to a machine-made equivalent, and small variations between one piece and the next. That is the material behaving normally rather than a fault.
