Recent Beans

Roasted The Morning After You Order It

Supermarket beans have often been sitting for months. Sometimes longer. Recent Beans started in Castleford on the straightforward premise that coffee is a fresh product and should be sold like one. Order before two in the afternoon and it is roasted and packed the same day. If you live within a mile and a half of the roastery they will bring it round that evening.

The date is on the bag

Every bag carries the date it was roasted, which sounds unremarkable until you check the last one you bought. Their position, stated rather more plainly than we would dare: if there is no roasted-on date, it is not fresh.

Speciality grade, and nothing else

Only 100% speciality grade arabica goes into the roastery, traceable back to the farm. Barry has been out to Chiapas to see the growers they have bought from for years, which is a considerable distance to go for a bag of beans and rather the point.

Come and roast some yourself

The Queen's Mill Roastery in Castleford runs roasting experiences: cupping single origins to work out what you actually like, blending with the head roaster, then roasting your blend on their drum roaster and taking a kilo home with your name on the bag.
